Olympic meeting – Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa headed the BOC delegation yesterday at the 36th meeting of the heads of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) from the GCC countries.
The gathering took place in Doha, where Shaikh Khalid was accompanied by Cabinet Affairs Ministry Under-Secretary and BOC vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji.
Various issues were discussed, including joint work in organising specialised seminars and workshops in the sports field, along with opportunities for international co-operation.
It was also decided to cancel the first Gulf Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which was scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia this year, upon the request of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee. This is due to the packed schedule of sporting events for the remainder of the year, and the upcoming participation of GCC countries in the sixth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, set to take place in Bangkok and Chonburi, Thailand, from November 21 to 30.
