BEACH VOLLEYBALL – BAHRAIN’S two men’s teams were victorious yesterday in their opening matches of the second West Asia Beach Volleyball Championship for Men and Women, being held in Amman, Jordan.
The Bahrain One tandem of Ali Abdulwahed and Mujtaba Al Shakhouri defeated Iraq 2-0 in Group D of the competition’s preliminary round. Meanwhile, the Bahrain Two pairing of Ali Marhoon and Hassan Nasser followed suit, defeating Saudi Arabia One 2-0 in Group B.
Both squads continue their medal bids today with their second games.
Meanwhile, on the distaff, the Bahrain One women’s pair of Munira Abdulla and Hawraa Hameed Majeed narrowly lost their opening fixture 1-2 against Jordan One yesterday.
Bahrain have another women’s duo in the competition, with Sajida Hussain Abbas and Fatima Abdulwahed making up Bahrain Two.
Seven nations are taking part in the regional event, which continues until Friday. The field consists of Bahrain, Saudi, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon, Iraq, and hosts Jordan.
In the men’s competition, there are 13 teams in all, divided into four groups for the opening stage. The women’s tournament features 10 pairings, who have been divided into two groups for the preliminaries.
