Manama defeated Al Ahli 84-79 in the final last night to win the Bahrain Basketball League title for the fourth consecutive year at the Bahrain Basketball Association Sports Hall in Um Al Hassam.
Overall, it was Manama’s 20th title. Al Ahli have won the title 17 times.
The quarters scores were as follows: 25-16 (Manama), 26-17 (Al Ahli), 23-19 (Manama), 19-13 (Al Ahli).
Manama’s best scorers were Kadeem Coleby of Bahamas with 23 points, Mohammed Hussain who finished with 22 along with Mohammed Kuwayyed who had 10.
Al Ahli’s best scorers were Hussain Shaker who hit 33 points along with Hisham Sarhan and Croatian giant Bruno who had and 8, respectively.
Manama performed very well early, scoring a number of three-point shots through Mohammed Hussain and Ahmed Abdulaziz, as well as some fine lay-ups from Ahmed Najaf, to build a 25-16 lead in the first quarter.
Manama continued applying the pressure on Al Ahli as they increased their lead to 15 points at 35-20 early in the second quarter, thanks to brilliant work from Mohammed Hussain and Colebey.
However, Al Ahli came back strongly with team captain Hussain Shaker sinking a number of three-pointers to reduce the margin to just four points at 40-36 at the end of the second quarter.
But it was Manama who dominated the third and fourth quarters. Al Ahli tried to reduce the margin after hitting three-pointers, but Manama’s defensive and offensive heroics through Kuwayyed and Hussain worked superbly as they went on to clinch the victory.
The match was attended by Bahrain Basketball Association President Adel Abdulrahman Al Assomi along with Bahrain Olympic Committee General Secretary Abdulrahman Askar and other guests and officials who honoured Manama with gold medals and Al Ahli with silver medals.
