THE Bahrain School Varsity Soccer season has concluded with the team being crowned champions in a tournament featuring Europe-based teams.
The school team fought in Kaiserslautern, Germany to claim the top prize in their tournament, held as part of the Department of Defense Dependent Schools European Soccer Championships.
Bahrain School had four games in group play before competing in the semi-final and finals.
In group action, the team had three wins and one draw while scoring nine goals and conceding just one.
They then won a tight semi-final against Black Forest Academy with a late 1-0 victory.
They then moved on to the final where they faced four-time defending champions from Marymount.
The game was close with Bahrain getting the best chances during open play. At the final whistle, the teams were tied at 1-1. Extra time did not bring either team a goal.
Penalties were tight with both teams scoring their first four attempts. Marymount put the fifth over the net and Bahrain was able to slot their fifth home, giving them their first championship.
At the beginning of the tournament, Bahrain was an unknown quantity. At the end, they were the crowd favourites.
Adeeb Qaisi, Asem Marzouq, and Yazan Saleh were named in the “All Tournament Team”. Adeeb also won the “Most Valuable Player” award.
