Dubai: Two Indian students were killed in a horrific road accident in Jebel Ali yesterday (December 25).
Rohit Krishnakumar (19) and Sharat Kumar (21) had returned to their families in Dubai for the winter holidays from their universities in the UK and the US, respectively.
The accident took place inside Gardens, a residential area near Jebel Ali at approximately 3am.
Sharath and Rohit, along with two other friends, had driven in a Mercedes sedan to a nearby food joint from Sharat's house for a late-night snack.
According to Paul Joseph, a family friend, their homes are only half a kilometre apart and their sedan rammed into a tree in the neighbourhood. The car was completely damaged in the accident.
Both students were killed on the spot. No further details were available, reported Khaleej Times.
The families of both boys, who are originally from the southern Indian state of Kerala, have been living in the UAE for several years.
Sharat is the only son of his parents Raji and Anand Kumar and was a student of the Pardee School of Global Studies, Boston University.
Rohit, a recipient of the Shaikh Hamdan Award, was his parents' youngest son studying at the University of Manchester.
The students were friends since childhood and were both former students of the Delhi Private School.
The mortal remains of both boys are to be repatriated to India on Thursday (December 26).
