Doha: Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani received his father Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani at the Hamad International Airport. The former Qatar Emir returned from Zurich after undergoing treatment for his broken leg.
Earlier, the Government of Qatar announced that former Emir underwent a successful surgery and was recovering in the Swiss city.
In a statement released by the ministry, it also confirmed that the former ruler was taken to Zurich in Switzerland on December 26 for treatment.
He had suffered a broken leg during his holidays in the Moroccan winter resort of Afran, in the Atlas mountainous region.
Sheikh Hamad, 63, is believed to have been in poor health for years. Under his 18-year rule, he transformed Qatar from a backwater into an Arab powerbroker that will host the 2022 World Cup and that’s home to satellite news broadcaster Al-Jazeera.

Sheikh Hamad’s son, Sheikh Tamim, now rules Qatar, a small, peninsular nation rich in natural gas and oil.
