MANAMA: IKEA Bahrain, the Swedish furniture giant's largest store in the region, was officially inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa this morning.
Shaikh Khalid was deputised to open the store by Deputy King His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa under whose patronage the event was held.
Set up on an area of 37,000sqm, the store in Salmabad boasts a 6,200sqm showroom, a 6,000sqm market hall for accessories, a 5,000sqm self-serve area and a 4,000sqm full-serve area.
The store will open to the public for the first time at 9am tomorrow (September 5), officials said.
It will remain open from 9am to 10pm Sunday to Wednesday and from 9am to 1am Thursday to Saturday.
The giant complex is also home to a 650-seat restaurant, the biggest in the kingdom, open from 8.30am to 9.30pm Sunday to Wednesday and from 8.30am to 12.30am Thursday to Saturday.
Last week, the store played host to more than 1,500 guests at the Family Day event ahead of the opening.
The event, which served as an operational test for the store, saw IKEA employees’ family members and those from contracting companies and media, get a sneak peek into the store.
