The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) announced the end of the fishing ban on shoor, safi, and andag fish in the territorial waters of Bahrain, effective Monday, June 1, following the conclusion of the ban period that began in early April as part of national efforts to protect and sustain marine resources.
The SCE affirmed the General Directorate of Marine Resources’ commitment to preserving biodiversity and regulating fishing activities in line with international environmental standards, which achieves a balance between the economic utilisation of marine resources and their sustainability.
The council noted that the ban was implemented in accordance with Resolution (2) of 2024 on the prohibition of fishing for shoor, safi, and andag fish, issued to preserve marine stock and enhance ecological balance. It added that these measures contribute directly to rehabilitating the ecosystem and ensuring the sustainability of marine resources for future generations.
The SCE commended fishermen for complying with the ban period and stressed the importance of continued cooperation with relevant authorities to support efforts aimed at protecting marine resources and enhancing their sustainability.
