An event aimed at raising awareness about the importance of preventing heat exhaustion and following proper health guidelines while engaging in sports activities was held recently at Al Malkiya Sports and Cultural Club.
The event, held to commemorate World Heat Response Day, which falls on June 2 every year, was organised by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), and saw the participation of the club’s under-14 and under-12 teams.
It was attended by BRCS board of directors member Dr Nilofer Jahromi, along with volunteers, coaches and players.
During a lecture, Dr Jahromi highlighted the key health risks associated with direct exposure to high temperatures, including heat stress, heat stroke and dehydration. She also explained the early warning signs of these conditions and how to respond to them promptly.
Participants were advised on the importance of drinking adequate amounts of water before, during and after exercise, taking regular breaks, wearing appropriate sportswear and avoiding direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours.
