A mother and son in the UAE have been held liable for selling a car with a falsified odometer reading.
The Al Ain Civil Court ordered the pair to refund the buyer AED 215,000 (approx. BD 22,000) and pay an additional AED 35,000 (approx. BD 3,600) to cover material and moral damages suffered by the victim.
The victim purchased the mother's vehicle through her son. However, a specialised inspection later revealed that the odometer had been tampered with to shave 68,000km off the actual mileage, inflating the car's market value.
