Bahrain’s senior men’s 3x3 basketball national team begin their medal bid today in the sixth Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China.
The kingdom’s quartet of Bogdan Dragovic, Nasser Al Mosawi, Austin Ajukwa, and the newly added Mohammed Kowayed will be taking on their counterparts from Qatar at 12.10pm and then go up against India at 2.15pm, both Bahrain time, in Pool C of their tournament’s preliminary round.
Kowayed has been called up as a late replacement for Milos Supica, who suffered an injury during the Bahrainis’ training camp in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.
The nationals will be playing three games in this stage of the 3x3 basketball men’s event, which features 16 nations in all.
They take on Kazakhstan on Monday in their concluding fixture of the preliminaries.
Pool A is composed of hosts China, the Philippines, Iran, and Macau; Pool B features Mongolia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka; and Pool D includes Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
Following a single round-robin, the top team from each pool move directly to the quarter-finals, while the second and third-placed squads will battle for the four other spots in head-to-head play-offs.
Ahead of today’s start of action, Bahrain’s senior men’s 3x3 basketball national team manager Ahmed Elyas attended the official technical meeting yesterday, where the tournament regulations, system, schedule of games, and other organisational matters were discussed, in order to ensure the smooth running of the competition.
