A labour union in the kingdom has slammed the unjustified Iranian attacks that targeted facilities belonging to the kingdom’s energy and oil sector on Sunday, stating that it constitutes a violation of international law.
The Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (BFLUF), in a statement released yesterday on social media, declared its full support for workers put at risk of their safety and livelihoods and signaled its readiness to co-operate with the authorities to enhance workplace safety.
It said that targeting the sector will only make the resolve of the kingdom stronger and its workforce and their families more united than ever.
“BFLUF expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the Iranian attacks that targeted vital industrial facilities in the kingdom, including those affecting facilities belonging to Bapco Energies and the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC),” the statement said.
“These attacks, carried out using drones, constitute a blatant act of aggression and a direct threat to the kingdom’s security, the safety of its economic facilities, and those working within them.
“These attacks on industrial and economic facilities, which represent a key artery of the national economy, underscore an aggressive approach that disregards the sanctity of nations and the safety of civilians and workers at production sites.
“They constitute a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms that prohibit the targeting of civilian and economic facilities.”
BFLUF affirmed that Bahraini workers, along with all expatriate colleagues in these facilities, have been and continue to be the first line of defence in sustaining production and safeguarding the nation’s resources.
They highlighted that the safety of the workers remains a top priority that must not be compromised under any circumstances, and also commended the swift response of emergency teams, civil defence and the relevant authorities in dealing with emergencies.
“Professional measures taken by the management of the concerned companies, along with the efforts of the authorities, have worked well to contain and control incidents without any casualties.
“This reflects the readiness of national cadres and the efficiency of the industrial safety system in Bahrain.
“The federation reiterates its full support for Bahrain, its wise leadership, armed forces and security agencies in confronting all threats to the nation’s security and stability.
“Targeting economic facilities and their workers will only strengthen the resolve and unity of the Bahraini people in protecting our homeland and its achievements.”
BFLUF also declared its full solidarity with management and workers of the companies and others in the energy and industrial sectors. It also stated its readiness to co-operate with the relevant authorities in all matters that enhance worker safety and protect vital workplaces.
The GDN reported yesterday that Iranian drones hit two industrial facilities in Bahrain on Sunday morning, resulting in material damage and no casualties.
Bapco Energies and GPIC confirmed that attacks at their facilities resulted in fires which have been fully extinguished.
Bapco Energies noted that the Iranian drone attack targeted one of its storage facilities in the early hours of yesterday morning, resulting in a tank blaze.
Meanwhile, GPIC added that a number of its operational units had been attacked by Iranian drones, triggering a series of fires. They were also fully extinguished and the situation remains under control.
