ESPORTS – BAHRAIN punched their tickets to the semi-final qualification round of the boys’ Rocket League 3x3 esports competition yesterday in the third Asian Youth Games.
The Bahrainis, comprising Hussain Aljowder, Mohammed Alyaqoobi, Nasser Abdulhadi, and Sayed Ali Alawi, won five of their seven matches to earn their place in the knockout stage.
They opened their bid with a 2-0 win against the UAE, and then defeated Indonesia 2-1. The Bahrainis then made it three in a row with a 2-1 triumph against Jordan, before disposing of Kazakhstan 2-0. They claimed their fifth win by beating Kyrgyzstan 2-0, but then lost back-to-back contests to Saudi Arabia and Oman with 0-2 score lines.
Their results were enough to earn them a spot in today’s semi-final qualification, where they will be facing Indonesia, who won three of seven yesterday. The other clash in this stage pits Oman against the UAE.
The winners will move on to the last four, where Saudi and Jordan await. The Saudis were perfect winning all their seven games yesterday, while the Jordanians took five wins. The semis and final are also scheduled for today on the concluding day of competition in this year’s Asian Youth Games.
