Washington: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), emphasised that despite major global and regional events, GCC states have established themselves as a fundamental pillar of regional and global security and stability, and as a distinguished model of integration and cooperation.
These remarks came during a discussion session hosted by the Institute of Arab Gulf States in Washington, D.C., attended by several ambassadors from GCC and Arab countries, along with senior officials and specialists.
Albudaiwi highlighted the GCC’s key achievements in political, economic, security, and military fields, noting that the Council has unified its positions in international forums, strengthened strategic partnerships, and enhanced its humanitarian and developmental role at the regional and global levels.
He underlined the GCC’s tangible progress in diversifying economies and reducing oil dependence through ambitious national visions and investments in renewable energy, technology, tourism, and logistics, in addition to advancing economic integration through the Gulf Common Market.
The Secretary General outlined the Council’s priorities for the coming decade, including completing the Customs and Monetary Unions, moving towards a unified Gulf economy, strengthening joint security and defence, leading energy transition efforts, and empowering youth and women as key drivers of the region’s future.
He reiterated the GCC’s firm position in support of the Palestinian cause and the need to reach a just and comprehensive solution in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
