BASKETBALL – Bahrain is set to host the Gulf Basketball Association’s (GBA) under-21 3x3 championship.
The tournament is scheduled for November 19 and 20, and it will feature competitions for both men and women, with the participation of the national teams from the six GCC countries.
Bahrain Basketball Association president Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Khalifa expressed his pride in the kingdom’s hosting of the event, stressing that it comes in line with the development plans pursued by the BBA to advance the game.
Meanwhile, GBA secretary general Saadoun Al Kuwari, who is also the Qatar Basketball Federation secretary general, affirmed his full confidence in Bahrain’s ability to host the Gulf championship, highlighting the kingdom’s extensive organisational expertise and distinguished infrastructure, which always qualifies it to deliver tournaments in the best possible way.
Al Kuwari expressed his thanks and appreciation to the BBA, headed by Shaikh Mohammed, for their great efforts in hosting this important Gulf event and providing all the elements for its success.
He emphasised that the existing cooperation between the Gulf federations reflects the spirit of joint work to advance the game in the region.
Al Kuwari explained that this championship is one of the main tournaments on the GBA’s agenda, given its significant role in supporting young men and women and developing their capabilities.
He emphasised that 3x3 basketball has now become a staple on the Olympic programme, making it imperative for Gulf countries to intensify their interest in and sponsorship of the game, which will help strengthen its presence at the regional and international levels.
He pointed out that holding this tournament in Bahrain represents a valuable opportunity for Gulf players, both men and women, to gain experience and interact in a highly competitive environment, especially as it comes before Bahrain hosts the Manama Final on the Fiba 3x3 World Tour – the premier street basketball series under the International Basketball Federation (Fiba).
Al Kuwari emphasised that the GBA will continue to work on expanding the scope of 3x3 championships and intensify their organisation across various age groups, in cooperation with national federations.
