Cardiac health came under the spotlight at a community event staged by Al Hilal Healthcare Group ahead of today’s World Heart Day.
The event was held at Oasis Mall in Juffair on Friday and featured a range of initiatives, including talks by medical experts, CPR demonstrations, a heart-health quiz and walking challenge.
Participants received giveaways, a heart health screening voucher worth BD50, plus the chance to win two Al Hilal Healthcare Group vouchers worth BD100, Shukran gift cards worth BD100 to be redeemed at Oasis Mall, and grand prizes worth up to BD500 for five lucky attendees.
Additionally, fun elements like a kids’ corner, fun games and interactions with a local radio station and snacks and refreshments were on offer.
MP Mohammed Hussain Janahi was the chief guest and attendees included Al Hilal Healthcare Group’s chief executive Dr Sharath Chandran, vice president Asif Mohamed and finance manager Sahal Jamaluddin, alongside other officials and sponsor representatives.
Doctors were also on hand to answer questions on heart disease prevention and lifestyle choices during a special focused session and offer vital tips and information.
“Nowadays, we hear news about a growing number of young people having sudden deaths, which is possibly due to viral flu,” cardiologist Dr Mohammed Abdul Khadir, who attended the event, told the GDN ahead of the programme, highlighting the theme of his talk. “Viral flu can provoke the immune system to produce chemicals that enter the bloodstream causing the blood to thicken, like jelly. A clot can be formed and block the flow of blood to vital organs,” he added.
World Heart Day, launched in partnership with World Health Organisation, emphasises the urgency of raising awareness on heart health and accelerating actions to prevent, detect early and manage cardiovascular diseases – those involving the heart or blood vessels.
