A legislator has called for a week-long holiday to be granted to teachers and administrators in schools and universities across the country during the final week of Ramadan each year.
MP Hamad Al Doy has urged the government to implement the proposal, which he believes would enhance the wellbeing of educational and administrative staff while improving the overall learning environment.
“The last week of Ramadan coincides with heavy work pressure on educational and administrative staff,” Mr Al Doy explained.

Mr Al Doy
“It is only fair to provide them with a period of rest that will help renew their energy, allow them to spend quality time with their families, and reflect positively on their performance.”
He added that supporting teachers and administrators was essential, given the crucial role they play in the development of the education sector.
“In light of the continuous efforts exerted by our educators, I am keen to present this proposal to strengthen their standing and show appreciation for their dedication,” said Mr Al Doy.
The MP said many proposals related to the holy month were usually submitted just before Ramadan, leaving little time for authorities to study them or implement them effectively.
“This is why I made sure to present the proposal well in advance,” he said.
“By doing so, the relevant parties and the government will have sufficient time to study its different aspects and develop a clear mechanism for its implementation.”
According to Mr Al Doy, the proposal has been formally submitted ahead of Parliament’s final term, which begins in October, to ensure it can be reviewed by the services committee, debated in the chamber, and then referred to the government for further study.
Ramadan in 2026 is expected to begin on February 18 and end on March 19.
“If approved, the initiative would apply to both government and private educational institutions across Bahrain,” he added.
