CYCLING – HIS Majesty King Hamad’s humanitarian work and youth affairs representative and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa inaugurated yesterday the Nasser bin Hamad Cycling Track in the Southern Governorate.
The event inaugurating the 50-kilometre track was attended by several sports officials in Bahrain.
Shaikh Nasser highlighted that the launch of the track is one of the strategic steps by the kingdom to promote sports as a lifestyle. The initiative aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad to enhance the quality of life and ensure citizens’ health and well-being.
Shaikh Nasser also commended the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for its comprehensive development plans, including encouraging sports as a key element of a healthy lifestyle.
Shaikh Nasser emphasised that the track is a significant addition to Bahrain’s sports achievements. It is the first of its kind in the country and the longest in distance, strategically located near key areas, making it an ideal destination for cyclists.
The inauguration began with Shaikh Nasser leading a ceremonial ride with professional cyclists from various national federations along the track, concluding at a commemorative monument marking the inauguration.
The event also included a children’s cycling tour to inspire the youth to take up the sport. Young participants showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
A celebratory carnival accompanied the track’s launch, featuring a dedicated area for cycling and various sports-themed activities.
Notably, the Nasser bin Hamad Cycling Track is designed to the highest international standards, offering a safe and comfortable environment for cycling enthusiasts. It provides a car-free space, ideal for both professional and amateur cyclists, contributing to long-term physical and mental health benefits.
