GOLF – LEE McIlear emerged as the overall winner in Awali Golf Club’s Stableford competition, held over the weekend.
McIlear secured the victory with 42 points and broke par with a 69 in the process.
Playing off a five handicap, McIlear has been in fine form over the past few weeks, and in this most recent event, spearheaded a group of players who were outstanding.
Four others finished on 41 points – just one shot behind McIlear – including Susan Scott, Abdullah Al Hasan, Paul Mclean, and Melanie Swain. Mclean had a personal best of gross 82.
Following the event, the winners were presented their respective awards in a ceremony by tournament director Rashed Al Qutami and club captain Steve Newall.
Next weekend at Awali Golf Club, the Korean Cup takes place on Friday, and then on Saturday, the annual clash between Awali Golf Club and the Royal Golf Club – the so-called ‘Green Brown Challenge’ – will be held. It is where players representing their respective clubs play a match of nine-holes on each surface. Awali are the current holders of the competition’s winners’ trophy.
