Bahrain girls’ youth football national team will be participating in the WAFF U17 Girls’ Championship 2025.
The tournament, which is being organised by the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) for the fifth time, will be held from February 8 to 16 in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
Bahrain is one of six countries participating in the event.
The draw for the tournament’s preliminary round was held yesterday by WAFF. The nationals were drawn in Group A alongside Jordan and hosts Saudi Arabia. Group B features defending champions Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon.
The Bahrainis are scheduled to open their campaign on February 10 when they take on Jordan at 3.15pm. The nationals then face off with Saudi on February 12 in a game kicking off at 7.15pm. Both times are Bahrain.
Following three match days in the first phase, the top two from each group move on to the semi-finals, which are set to be held on February 14. The gold medal and bronze medal games are then slated for February 16.
The tournament is being held to support the various age groups in the regional game for both girls, and boys. Saudi is staging the event as part of a series of WAFF championships successfully held in the country.
Syria were the champions of the previous edition, held in Amman, Jordan at the end of 2023. Lebanon won the title in its third edition, held at the beginning of 2023, as well as the crown in the second edition in Jordan as well in late 2019. The first edition of the tournament was held in the UAE in 2018, when Jordan were crowned the champions.
