A 37-year-old Japanese man, Yuta Sugawara, has a bizarre hobby of trespassing on other people’s properties in the city of Daizafu.
However, when he finally got caught trespassing on a couple’s property two weeks ago, police were shocked. After questioning the man, he revealed that he had, in fact, trespassed on strangers’ properties over 1,000 times for personal enjoyment! He said that "the nerve-wracking feeling of wondering if I’ll be seen makes my palms sweat and helps me relieve stress."
During questioning about the couple's residence, which led to his arrest, Sugawara expressed that he thought the couple were away that day. However, the couple saw him on their land and chased him. The owner eventually immobilised Sugawara, while his wife called the police.
The Fukuoka Prefectural Police arrested Sugawara. During questioning, he admitted that "there’s no doubt that I entered the property of a private residence without permission” and then casually continued telling investigators that this was a thrilling hobby of his.
The Mainichi Shimbun, a Japanese newspaper quoted Sugawara’s statement: “Breaking into other people’s homes is a hobby of mine, and I have done it more than 1,000 times. I only entered the properties, and never inside the houses.”
Nonetheless, the investigators are currently working on connecting Yuta Sugawara to other crimes in the area.
