Warner Bros. Studios Japan has recalled replica swords sold since May last year due to violations of Japan's weapon laws. The company sold full-sized replicas of Godric Gryffindor's sword mounted on a wooden display plaque. A total of 350 units were sold before Japanese authorities notified the company that the swords were sharp enough to be classified as actual weapons.
In response, Warner Bros. Studios Japan issued a recall notice, requesting buyers to contact them for "necessary actions, including logistics and refunds."
According to Japanese law, anyone carrying a knife longer than 6 cm may face up to two years in prison. The replicas meet the length and sharpness criteria that classify them as weapons.
