HORSERACING – WEST Suffolk won the Bahrain Bourse Cup in the feature race yesterday at Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) in Sakhir.
The Abdulla Kuwaiti-trained six-year-old, ridden yesterday by Abdulrahim Jasim, triumphed for owner Shaikh Khalid bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa.
West Suffolk won the 2,200m event for imported horses, featuring a total prize purse of BD3,000, one-and-three-quarter lengths ahead of runner-up Winforglory, competing for Al Mohamediya Racing, Ali Abdulmajeed, and PJ McDonald.
Taking third was Port Douglas, racing for Ali Jaafar Darwish and Jaffar Darwish, with Marcialis Jaures in the saddle; while in fourth as the last prize money winner was M and E Racing’s Glen Savage, trained by AM Smith and ridden by Seamie Heffernan.
Yesterday’s programme at REHC, which was partly held under lights, featured an eight-race card – all offering Bahrain Bourse Cups.
West Suffolk took first place in the seventh and penultimate race.
In race three, which also featured BD3,000 prizes to go with the Bahrain Bourse Cup, Army Ethos won after 1,400m for owners Victorious and Fawzi Nass, who is also the trainer.
Jockey Stephane Ladjadj rode the three-year-old amongst other imported contenders to a dominant victory. They enjoyed a seven-lengths margin from another Nass-trained horse in Labalaba, racing for Shaikh Isa bin Duaij bin Salman bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, with Husain Makki in the saddle. In third was Al Remah Stable’s Kuwaiti-trained, Abdulrahim Jasim-ridden Tribal Hunter, while taking the last share of the spoils was Carnegie Hall for Al Afoo Racing, Jaber Ramadhan, and David Liska.
Amongst other winners, Musannan M908 won the Bahrain Bourse Cup in race one for Mohamediya, Abdulmajeed, and Hasan Al Saffar; Coiled and Ready won race two for Victorious, AM Smith, and Hasan Asghar; Rider Of The Storm took first place in race four for M and E, Smith, and Lee Newman; Battyeford Boy triumphed in race five for Abdulla Al Gaoud, Kuwaiti, and Jasim; and December triumphed for Mohamediya, Nass, and McDonald in the evening’s eighth and final race. Race six did not take place yesterday.
