An Italian village, Ollolai, is offering a unique solution to Americans who may be feeling disappointed by recent political events: $1 homes.
Located on the Italian island of Sardinia, Ollolai is welcoming new residents, particularly those from the United States, with open arms. The village's website states, “Are you worned (sic) out by global politics? Looking to embrace a more balanced lifestyle while securing new opportunities? It’s time to start building your European escape in the stunning paradise of Sardinia.”
The mayor of Ollolai has confirmed that the scheme is open to anyone interested in living in the village, but American applicants will be prioritised.
The village offers three tiers of accommodation: free temporary homes for digital nomads, €1 homes that require renovation, and ready-to-occupy houses priced up to €100,000.
This isn't the first time Italian towns and villages have offered affordable housing to attract new residents. Many rural areas in Italy are facing depopulation and are eager to revitalise their communities.
