Airbnb is offering the opportunity of a lifetime to 16 lucky people to live out their dreams of being a gladiator in real life and fighting in the Colosseum, and it's not going to cost you anything at all.
As part of its Icons lineup, Airbnb is partnering with Paramount Pictures to promote the new 'Gladiator II' movie by offering a real-life gladiator experience.
Interested parties will be able to pick one of two, three-hour experiences for up to 16 people. The experience does not include an overnight stay at the Colosseum, and guests will be expected to provide their own travel and accommodation
Guests will be greeted by the master of ceremonies outside the Colosseum after sunset and taken through the portal. Once inside the underground chamber, they will be able to decide their gladiator type by donning the armour provided and prepare for the battle.
This event will mark the first time the iconic landmark will be open to the public after dark.
It's not all sunshine and rainbows though as several residents of Rome haven't backed the idea. Many argue that the whole concept of letting people fight in the Colosseum is offensive to its historic status.
Interested prospective gladiators can try and book the experience starting from November 27 at 6AM PT at airbnb.com/gladiatormovie through December 9 at 11:59 PM PT when request periods close.
The actual event will take place on May 7 and 8, 2025.
