CUE SPORTS – Bahrain have been crowned overall champions in the Arab Billiards and Snooker Championships 2024, which has wrapped up in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The kingdom’s billiards and snooker national teams came away with an outstanding haul of 13 medals – highlighted by five gold. They also bagged one silver and seven bronze medals in the event.
Brothers Hussain Maroom and Haider Maroom spearheaded the Bahraini bid. They each came away with two of Bahrain’s gold medals – one apiece in individual play – and then teamed up with fellow-Bahraini Ebrahim Al Qaed to clinch another.
The other gold medals were claimed in individual events by women’s billiards player Nahla Al Suni and men’s snooker superstar Habib Sabah.
“I feel very happy and proud to be a part of this amazing result for Bahrain,” Hussain told the GDN yesterday.
“Our achievements here show that Bahrain is a very strong team in the Arab world, both in billiards and snooker.”
Hussain captured his gold medal in the men’s under-19 singles nine-ball category, while Haider won his gold in the men’s under-17 singles 10-ball. Hussain, Haider, and Al Qaed then secured their gold in the senior men’s doubles 10-ball event.
Al Sunni added her Arab title in women’s singles nine-ball, and Sabah clinched his snooker gold in the men’s singles competition.
The kingdom’s lone silver medal was claimed by Hussain in the senior men’s singles nine-ball event.
The seven bronze medals were won by the team of Hussain, Haider, and Al Qaed in the men’s doubles nine-ball; Haider in men’s under-19 singles nine-ball and men’s under-17 singles nine-ball; Aisha Buhazza in women’s singles 10-ball; Sabah and teammate Hesham Al Saqer in men’s snooker teams; and Sabah in the men’s masters singles and men’s six-red singles.

He was on hand at the official awarding of the tournament’s title, along with BBSDF board member Hussain Bubshait and other national delegation officials.
A total of 13 nations from across the region competed in the tournament, and Bahrain were amongst the leading delegations from the start.
