A workshop on disaster management was recently held by the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) as part of an ongoing initiative to improve volunteers emergency response skills and capabilities.
Led by the society’s disaster management team head Fathia Al Toblani, the workshop covered topics such as risk assessment methodologies, fire safety and emergency response protocols, as well as detailed analysis of potential hazards.
“This workshop exemplifies BRCS’ dedication to fostering a highly skilled and responsive volunteer force,” said Ms Al Toblani.
“By equipping our volunteers with advanced knowledge and expertise, we aim to bolster community resilience and safeguard the well-being of all citizens.
“In addition to enhancing technical proficiency in disaster response, we sought to cultivate a strong ethos of volunteerism and empower participants to effectively address a wide spectrum of accidents and injuries, both domestically and internationally.”
Participants also received hands-on training in fire suppression techniques, as well as first aid training on how to manage a range of injuries that could happen in emergency scenarios. Volunteers were also trained on how to offer emotional support to patients.
A similar workshop was held last month by BRCS, which covered topics including the significance of evaluation in disaster management, best intentional practices and the media’s role during crises.
Participants explored modern tools and methods of assessing disaster impacts and needs, as well as how to use assessment results for informed decision-making.
