HORSERACING – A pair of top Victorious Racing contenders powered to impressive results yesterday in international horseraces in the UK.
Victorious’ Bay City Roller claimed an impressive victory in the Betfred Champagne Stakes Group Two race for colts and geldings, held at Doncaster Racecourse. Ride The Thunder then finished a strong runner-up in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes, which took place at the same venue.
The results continued the fine form in global competition of horses racing in the silks of Victorious, which is owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Bay City Roller won in Doncaster with Callum Shepherd in the saddle of the George Scott-trained two-year-old.
Competing over seven furlongs amongst a five-runner field, they finished a half-length ahead of Monumental, owned by Derrick Smith and Mrs John Magnier and Michael Tabor, trained by A P O’Brien, and ridden by Gavin Ryan. Aftermath finished third for owners Westerberg, Mrs J Magnier, M Tabor, and D Smith; trainer O’Brien, and jockey Wayne Lordan.
In the other race, held over an eight-furlong straight with 11 competitors, Ride The Thunder, trained by Roger Varian and ridden yesterday by Silvestre De Sousa, was beaten by a nose to the finish. Securing the triumph ahead of Victorious’ two-year-old was Yabher, owned by Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum, trained by William Haggas and jockeyed by Cieren Fallon. Valedictory finished third for Godolphin, John and Thady Gosden, and Kieran Shoemark.
