CYCLING – Team Bahrain Victorious rider Phil Bauhaus posted an impressive sixth-place finish yesterday in the fourth and penultimate stage of the Renewi Tour, currently taking place in Belgium.
The German had a strong closing sprint to complete the 178.5-kilometre leg amongst the leaders’ group, which was spearheaded by stage winner Jasper Philipsen of Alpecin-Deceuninck team.
Italian teammate Andrea Pasqualon followed in 25th place, while Briton Fred Wright was 34th. Slovenian Matej Mohoric came 69th, German Nikias Arndt was 92nd, and Serbian Dusan Rajovic and Pole Lukasz Wisniowski 135th and 136th, respectively.
Wright remained Bahrain Victorious’ best-ranked rider in 18th on the race’s general classification (GC) in the battle for the yellow jersey. Bauhaus stayed 20th in the points rankings for the green jersey.
The Renewi Tour is now headed for the fifth and final stage today, covering 202.7km in distance starting from Menen and ending in Geraardsbergen.
Meanwhile, Australian Jack Haig was in the top 20 yesterday on the 14th stage of the Vuelta a Espana in Spain.
Haig was ranked 19th after 200.5km of road racing in the Grand Tour event. He was also 19th on the GC after yesterday’s leg.
Stage 15 is to take place today over 143km, from Infiesto to Valgrande-Pajares Cuitu Negru.
The Vuelta a Espana, also known as “La Vuelta”, is the third Grand Tour event of the UCI WorldTour calendar, following the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France.
