TABLE TENNIS – BAHRAIN bagged three more gold medals yesterday in the West Asian Table Tennis Championship 2024, currently being held in Amman, Jordan.
Amruta Phadke captured the senior women’s singles crown, while youngsters Kenda Mahmoud and Sayed Ahmed Faisal each came away with the titles in their respective singles competitions.
Their winnings brought the kingdom’s national team tally to nine so far in the competition, including seven gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.
Phadke struck gold after outclassing her Jordanian counterpart 3-0 in their final last night.
Kenda took the under-11 girls’ singles crown yesterday after defeating her opponent from Qatar 3-0 in their title-decider. Sayed then won the under-11 boys’ singles title after outplaying his rival from Iraq 3-0 in their gold medal contest.
Bahrain Table Tennis Association president Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa was present at the tournament venue yesterday and congratulated Phadke, Kenda, Sayed, and the Bahrain delegation’s officials and coaches on their success.
The Bahrainis’ other gold medals in the tournament were won by Rashed Sanad, Mohammed Abbas, and Sayed Murtadha Hussain in the senior men’s teams category; Sanad and Abbas in the senior men’s doubles; Ali Youssef, Sayed Nasser, Ali Hussain, and Hassan Ebrahim in the under-13 boys’ teams; and Mohammed Nader and Majed Alali in the under-17 men’s doubles.
Meanwhile, the silver medal was claimed in the under-17 men’s teams division, and the bronze was captured in the under-15 girls’ teams event.
