TABLE TENNIS – BAHRAIN’S national table tennis team have made it through to the knockout stages in the various age categories of the West Asian Teams Championship, currently being held in Amman, Jordan.
According to the Bahrain Table Tennis Association (BTTA), the under-11 and under-13 boys’ squads both advanced to the semi-finals of their divisions, while the under-17 men’s team and the under-15 girls’ side topped their groups in the preliminary round.
The under-11 Bahrainis qualified for their last four after defeating Syria 3-1 and the UAE 3-0 during the group stage. They emerged as winners of their pool and will now take on their counterparts from Qatar in the last four.
Meanwhile, the under-13s advanced to their semis after also topping their first-round group following a 3-2 win against Qatar and a 3-0 sweep of Kuwait.
The under-17 men claimed the top place in their pool with a 3-1 triumph against Saudi Arabia followed by a 3-2 win against Lebanon. The under-15 girls then won 3-2 against Kuwait and 3-1 over Saudi to top their division.
Bahrain’s delegation in the Jordanian capital is headed by BTTA vice-president Ali Abdulali Al Madah. There are 20 players flying the kingdom’s flag in the various age groups, including Rashed Sanad, Mohammed Abbas, Sidmurtadha Hussain, Elyas Alyasi, Mohammed Nader, Hussain Jaber, Majeed Alali, Ali Youssef, Nasser Sayed Alawi, Hassan Ebrahim, Ali Hussain, Sayed Ahmed, Sayed Hashem, Ali Al Hashemi, Hussain Jaafar, Amruta Phadke, Kenda Mahmoud, Hessa Abdulrahman, Dana Alkhayyat, and Rayyan Emad.
