Team Bahrain Victorious rider Antonio Tiberi rose to sixth on the best young rider rankings yesterday after the third stage of the 2024 Vuelta a Espana.
Tiberi was the team’s leading finisher in the 191.2-kilometre leg, held in Portugal. He took 41st overall, while fellow-Italian Damiano Caruso followed in 62nd place and Australian Jack Haig came 68th.
Norwegian Torstein Traen ranked 102nd in the stage, Austrian Rainer Kepplinger was 127th, Croatian Fran Miholjevic came 136th, and Pole Kamil Gradek and German Jasha Sutterlin rounded out Bahrain Victorious’ participants in 142nd and 157th, respectively.
Tiberi improved one place amongst the leading youth in the battle for the white jersey. He is now 25 seconds behind leader Mathias Vacek of Lidl-Trek team. Miholjevic is also in the best young rider standings in 40th place.
Furthermore, Tiberi is the leading Bahrain Victorious man on the race’s general classification (GC). He is 17th after rising one spot and is 40 seconds from first place, occupied by yellow jersey-holder Wout Van Aert of Team Visma-Lease a Bike. Haig is 38th on the GC and Caruso 69th.
The Vuelta a Espana, also known as ‘La Vuelta’, is the third Grand Tour event of the UCI WorldTour calendar, following the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France. Action continues today with the 170.5km fourth stage, starting from Plasencia and ending in Pico Villuercas.
