Team Bahrain Victorious finished as overall runners-up on the teams’ ranking at the end of the seven-stage Tour de Pologne yesterday in Poland.
The kingdom’s squad completed the UCI WorldTour road race behind only UAE Team Emirates, who topped the teams’ classification with an overall winning time of 73 hours 20 minutes and 28 seconds from the race.
Bahrain Victorious were five minutes and five seconds behind the victors, while EF Education-EasyPost team from the US were third amongst the 22 squads, 7:40 adrift.
Italian Andrea Pasqualon was Bahrain Victorious’ best finisher from yesterday’s 142.1km seventh and final stage, claiming 14th overall individually. Not far behind was Slovenian teammate Matej Mohoric in 22nd, while another Italian, Edoardo Zambanini, was 26th.
Amongst the team’s other riders, Briton Fred Wright came 101st, Spaniard Pello Bilbao was 109th, Pole Lukasz Wisniowski was 116th, and German Phil Bauhaus came 125th.
Mohoric and Zambanini were Bahrain Victorious’ top competitors in the general classification (GC) at the end of the race. They both secured places in the final top 10, with Mohoric in sixth and Zambanini seventh.
Mohoric also made it to 10th in the points rankings, while Zambanini followed in 11th place as both riders dropped three places each after the last stage.Meanwhile, Italian Antonio Tiberi was Bahrain Victorious’ top rider yesterday in the second stage of the Vuelta a Espana. Tiberi ranked 73rd in the 194km leg, which took place in Portugal.
His teammates were not far behind with countryman Damiano Caruso finishing 78th, Pole Kamil Gradek 80th, and Norwegian Torstein Traen in 81st. Croatian Fran Miholjevic ranked 100th, Australian Jack Hai 109th, and Austrian Rainer Kepplinger 143rd to round out the Bahrain Victorious squad.
With yesterday’s results, Tiberi rose four places on the GC to 14th in the battle for the race’s yellow jersey. Wout Van Aert of Team Visma-Lease a Bike currently leads, with Tiberi just 30 seconds off his mark. Tiberi is also a contender amongst the best young riders in the battle for the white jersey. He improved two places to fifth yesterday and is just 25 seconds behind leader Mathias Vacek of Lidl-Trek team. The Vuelta a Espana, also known as “La Vuelta”, is the third Grand Tour event of the UCI WorldTour calendar, following the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France.
