WRESTLING – BAHRAIN’S cadet wrestling national team are set to participate in the 2024 U15 and U20 Asian Wrestling Championships, taking place in Sriracha, Thailand.
The continental event is being organised by United World Wrestling in co-operation with the Thai Wrestling Association.
The Bahraini squad features three of the kingdom’s top young freestyle wrestlers, including Abdulla Yousef, Hassan Al Balushi, and Duaij Al Saleh. Abdulla will compete in the boys’ 38kg division, while Hassan will wrestle in the boys’ 41kg class. Duaij will go for gold amongst the boys’ 44kg participants.
Bahrain’s delegation travelling to Thailand for the event is headed by Bahrain Wrestling Federation (BWF) official Kamal Jamal and includes national wrestling coach Sharap Gitinov.
BWF president Abdulredha Haji stated that the Bahraini cadets’ participation comes within the federation’s efforts aimed at raising the level of wrestling in the kingdom. It also contributes to the development of Bahraini wrestlers in various age groups as they gain more experience and exposure in top-level events at the continental and international levels.
Haji noted that the BWF looks forward to Bahrain’s positive participation in the tournament and wished the young athletes the very best in their medal bids.
The official opening ceremony is scheduled to be held tomorrow when matches are also scheduled to get underway. The finals in the under-15 category are scheduled to be held on Thursday, to be followed by the awards ceremonies.
