Phil Bauhaus sprinted to an impressive sixth-place finish for Team Bahrain Victorious yesterday in the third stage of the Tour de France 2024.
Bauhaus was amongst a small group battling for the win at the end of the 230.8km leg, which concluded in the Italian city of Torino. The German was amongst the top finishers who were classified behind winner Biniam Girmay of Intermarche-Wanty team, who triumphed in a time of five hours 26 minutes 48 seconds.
It was the best finish so far for a Bahrain Victorious rider in the prestigious race this year. Teammate Pello Bilbao was previously ninth in stage one and then 26th in stage two as their best-classified rider.
Slovenian Matej Mohoric followed on yesterday’s stage ranking in 19th overall, while Bilbao was this time 36th. Australian Jack Haig took 44th place, while Colombian Santiago Buitrago was 50th. German Nikias Arndt came 96th, Dutchman Wout Poels finished 121st, and Briton Fred Wright was ranked 144th.
On the general classification, Bilbao climbed two spots to sixth while Buitrago improved by one to 25th. Buitrago also stayed in seventh on the ranking of best young rider.
The Tour de France continues today with a mountainous fourth stage, which features a 139.6km total distance. Riders are set to depart from Pinerolo in Italy and arrive at Valloire in France.
This year’s race is the second Grand Tour event of the 2024 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Tour calendar. The first was the Giro d’Italia in May, and the third will be the Vuelta a Espana, scheduled for August and September.
