The Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) wrapped up its participation at the Datacloud Global Congress in Cannes, France, this week, promoting the country as a prime location for data centre and cloud computing investment.
Bahrain EDB officials connected with key industry players including data centre operators, hyperscalers, cloud providers, and software vendors, according to a statement.
Discussions focused on the latest trends and challenges in the digital infrastructure landscape, while Bahrain highlighted its competitive advantages to potential investors.
“The Datacloud Global Congress is a key platform to connect with global leaders and showcase Bahrain’s position as a tech hub for companies seeking regional expansion,” said Musab Abdulla, executive director of business development for ICT at EDB.
Mr Abdulla emphasised Bahrain’s government support, cost-efficiency, skilled workforce, and strategic location with strong global connectivity as factors that position the country as a leading data centre destination in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena).
He also participated in a panel discussion on the growth of digital infrastructure projects in the region, alongside representatives from NEOM, Khazna Data Centres, and others. The panel explored challenges in building digital ecosystems, planning for smart cities, and investment opportunities in the Mena market.
The launch of Amazon Web Services’ first hyperscale data centre in Bahrain in 2018 has spurred data traffic growth in the Mena region, the statement said.
Bahrain is positioned to attract further investment with its Cloud-First Policy, data jurisdiction law and nationwide 5G network.
Datacloud Global Congress is a major tech industry event, attracting more than 2,800 decision-makers from finance, technology, and energy sectors, alongside data center providers and government agencies.
