BAHRAIN’S players dominated the Men’s Super Singles competition in the 35th GPIC Open Tennis Championship, organised by the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) at the BTC courts in Juffair, under the patronage of GPIC president Yasser Abdul Rahim Al Abbasi.
For the third time in the history of the tournament, the Men’s Super Singles final will be an all-Bahraini affair – the first time was in the 26th edition held in 2012, when Khalid Al Thawadi beat Ayman Mohammed Jaafar and in the 27th edition, the following year, where Jaafar defeated Abdul Rahman Shehab.
In this edition Youssef Qaed will take on the experienced Hassan Abdul Reda in the final tomorrow at 6pm.
Qaed defeated Elias Abdul Redha 6-1, 6-2 in the first semi-finals on Saturday evening, while Reda rallied to beat Janji Soquino, of the Philippines, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the other semi-final.
The Men’s Super Doubles final will be contested by Soquino and his partner Nino Remonde against the Dutch duo of Hidde Sels and Jim Burger. In the men’s singles competition, Wafi Mohammed will clash with Faisal Ahmadi, while the other finals will be for the Veterans 55 singles and Veterans 45 doubles.
