A Copa Airlines flight bound for Tampa from Panama City made an emergency landing on Friday after a suspicious object was found in one of the plane's restrooms.
The object turned out to be an adult diaper, but the incident caused a significant delay for the passengers.
The flight was en route to Tampa, Florida, when the crew received information about the suspicious object.
The pilot decided to return to Panama City as a precaution. The plane landed safely and all 144 passengers were evacuated.
An anti-explosives team searched the plane and found the adult diaper.
The National Police of Panama wrote on its X handle that "After an alert by @aacivilpty of a foreign object on an airline, the Special Forces units activated the emergency protocol, and when verified, it turned out to be a disposable adult diaper."
The flight was delayed by several hours, but it eventually took off again and arrived in Tampa just before 7 pm.
The incident is a reminder that airlines take bomb threats very seriously, even if they turn out to be false alarms.
