Ombudswoman and Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission (PDRC) chairperson Ghada Hameed Habib yesterday received Italian Ambassador Paola Amadi, and affirmed keenness of the Office of the Ombudsman to extend bridges of communication with relevant entities, including the diplomatic missions accredited in the kingdom.
The two sides reviewed co-operation and ways to exchange expertise with similar Italian agencies, as part of the Office of the Ombudsman’s international co-operation and development programmes.
She reviewed recent efforts and activities of the Office of the Ombudsman, particularly those related to the follow-up of the situation of inmates, and verification of the services and care they receive.
She also highlighted efforts to support the Interior Ministry’s plans and initiatives pertaining to the development of services provided by correctional, rehabilitation and pretrial detention centres, in co-operation with the national independent institutions, such as the Office of the Ombudsman and PDRC.
