A MAN who pushed his girlfriend to her death from the fifth-floor window of her apartment because she kept yelling at him and wouldn’t let him sleep has been jailed for life after being found guilty of murder.
The 30-year-old Indian pushed Ukrainian Valeria Bomostifa, aged 28, from her apartment window before she plunged onto the balcony of a first-floor apartment, according to court documents.
The court heard the couple got into a heated argument over financial issues after she lost her job due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The defendant claimed that he warned her to quieten down and leave him alone because he had to get to sleep as he had to be up by 5am to get ready for work. His occupation was not revealed during the proceedings.
She continued to shout at him and in a moment of fury he picked her up by her thighs and pushed her out of the window.
“The defendant meant to kill his victim and he was aware of his actions,” read the court ruling. “He threatened her a couple of times as they continued to argue following a night out.
“They were sitting on a bed, wearing just their undergarments, as they continued to fight. The victim did not stop shouting and the defendant decided to kill her.
“He picked her up and pushed her out of the apartment window. The defendant recounted how he carried out his crime to the authorities.”
The defendant will be deported after completing his 25-year sentence.
A security guard at the building, who previously took to the stand in court, said the defendant did not appear distressed when he told him that his girlfriend had fallen to her death.
The couple got into an argument following a night out and the alleged crime was carried out while the defendant was intoxicated, the court heard.
On the night of the incident, they were seen arguing during a taxi ride back to the apartment, minutes before she was found dead.
A taxi driver previously described how his passengers exchanged insults and added that the man lost his temper during the journey.
A medical examiner concluded that the victim died from fractures to her skull from the fall. The incident took place in Mahooz on February 22.
