Riyadh: A Saudi matchmaker has been arrested in the Eastern Province for arranging illegal marriage of five women to more than one husband.
Police investigation revealed that the marriage contracts have not been certified by competent courts, making them illegal.
The woman matchmaker would only certify documents mentioning it to be ‘temporary marriage’.
The matchmaker was arrested after a man reported a missing girl to the police and accused the woman of luring females into marrying men, reported local Arabic daily Okaz.
The woman would serve as a mediator on social media websites and arranges meeting between men and women.
The woman admitted to arranging ‘illegal marriages’ saying that her behaviour is ‘sinful’.
The Prosecution urged the court to sentence her up to five years in prison and SR3 million fine.
