His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for Charity World and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman and Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) honorary president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday attended the qualifiers for the Khalid bin Hamad Endurance Race.
The race, which takes place today at the Bahrain International Endurance Village, has been organised on the directives of Shaikh Nasser and under the patronage of SCYS first deputy chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The race will cover 120km, and will feature a wide participation. The contest, to be held over four stages, is expected to showcase fierce competition. Shaikh Khalid has approved cars as prizes for the top three winners.
Present during yesterday’s qualifiers was Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) vice-president and the Coordination, Execution and Follow-up Committee (Estijabah) vice-president Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa.
A broad list of competitors took part in the initial races. Shaikh Nasser also witnessed the Family Race which was held over a distance of 20km featuring young participants.
Shaikh Nasser expressed happiness at the wide participation in the Family Race, pointing out that Breef, under the presidency of Shaikh Isa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, has begun reaping the fruit of its ambitious strategy by instilling confidence among young participants.
Commenting on today’s 120km race, Shaikh Nasser said that the competition will be wide open as all the participants will strive to achieve a great result.
Breef secretary Ghaleb Al Alawi, assistant secretary Dr Khalid Ahmed Hassan and Breef Media and PR Committee head Tawfiq Al Salehi crowned the winners of the Family Race.
