MANAMA: Progress made in Bahrain’s first satellite project was reviewed yesterday
The 3U CubeSat, which is being implemented by young scientists from Bahrain and the UAE as part of a joint space project, is expected to be launched to the International Space Station in August, and into space in October.
Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal Ahmed, who is also National Space Science Agency (NSSA) board chairman, held a meeting with the Bahrain Space Team, currently in the UAE.
UAE Space Agency director general Dr Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, NSSA’s chief executive Dr Mohamed E Al Aseeri and senior officials from both sides took part.
The minister was briefed about Bahrain Space Team’s work and their research projects, in addition to the challenges they are facing in their studies during the current circumstances and ways to overcome them.
The meeting discussed ongoing Bahrain-UAE projects, the most prominent achievements and a number of future projects to be implemented in a way that would contribute to achieving the objectives of the bilateral agreements.
The 3U CubeSat, Bahrain’s first satellite, will undergo a series of technical tests in March to ensure its compatibility with the launch criteria. It is expected to be launched in August next year.
Mr Ahmed expressed pride in Bahraini youth’s enthusiasm and passion for acquiring knowledge and modern science.
He also praised the efforts made by the UAE Space Agency to ensure the success of all co-operation projects with NSSA.
