Muscat: Omani authorities have announced that violators of the night-time lockdown which begins tonight, will be dealt with strictly.
“The Public Prosecution will deal firmly with the arrested and refer violators of these decisions for all legal measures to be taken against them,” Muscat Governorate Public Prosecution director general Mohammed bin Said Al Yahyai said.
“They will be imprisoned and sent to the competent courts.
“Public Prosecution calls upon all citizens and residents to fully adhere to the committee’s decisions and cooperate continuously, in the interests of everyone."
As part of its ongoing measures, the Supreme Committee for dealing with COVID-19 has taken a number of new decisions including prohibition of movement and lockdown of all public places and commercial outlets from 8 pm to 5 am starting October 11 to October 24, a ban on the use of beaches until further notice, and the closure of businesses which failed to observe preventative guidelines put in place by the authorities.
The new measures were revealed after extensive studying of reports and an unprecedented rise in hospital wards and intensive care unit occupancies, Times of Oman reported.
During this period, hospitals will keep their emergency services running throughout the day, but will close to outpatients before the 8pm movement ban comes into effect.
