Muscat: Donations raised by the Oman Charitable Organisation (OCO) crossed OMR100,000 as of Sunday evening, as part of its efforts to help those affected by the blast in Beirut.
A total of OMR111,945 had been contributed to the OCO by 7,530 donors, according to donate.om, the sultanate's government-run portal where people can make donations to registered charities.
Bank accounts to collect the donations were set up just one day after the terrible explosion rocked the Port of Beirut, causing heavy damage to the immediate and surrounding areas, and resulting in the death of more than 150 people while injuring thousands more.
Those interested in donating may do so by contributing either to OCO or Dar Al Atta'a through four bank accounts that have been set up for this purpose - Bank Muscat (account number 0423010706280016), National Bank of Oman, (1049337798005), Bank Dhofar (01040609090001), and Oman Arab Bank (3101053013500).
Oman's government has also sent medical supplies to Lebanon where relief efforts are currently underway.
