Muscat: Oman has enforced a nationwide lockdown to stop the spread of the coronavirus, Times of Oman reported.
Enforced by the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the rules do not allow for travel between governorates and a curfew from 7pm to 6am.
ROP checkpoints have been set up on roads which connect different Sultanates and tthe lockdown is expected to last until August 8.
Those who are found violating the curfew will be fined OMR100, said ROP Director General of Operations Brigadier Said Al Asmi, adding that the purpose of the lockdown is to reduce the occurrence of confirmed cases and family gatherings.
Individuals who have hospital appointments in another governorate can pass through with proof from the medical facility which confirms their appointment.
Those who have flights from Muscat International Airport may present their travel documents and flight tickets and only the driver of the vehicle taking passengers to the airport is allowed to accompany them.
