Kuwait City: Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) has denied publishing a news story on social media that quoted the US Ambassador to Kuwait Alina Romanowski.
"KUNA stresses that it retains the rights and will take all the necessary legal measures to hold accountable any party or person found to be standing behind this incorrect story, and will do so in the court of law," the agency said in a statement.
The US embassy also denied Romanowski had made remarks attributed to her in Iraqi media.
"Remarks attributed to the US Ambassador to Kuwait Alina Romanowski in the Iraqi media today were a malicious fabrication. Ambassador Romanowski gave no such interview and the purported 'news' originates from a website created to spread false information," the embassy said in a statement posted on its website and its Facebook page.
"The Ambassador has not discussed Iraq with the Kuwait News Agency or any other media outlet, whether here in Kuwait or elsewhere, since her arrival as Ambassador to Kuwait."
Romanowski, a career diplomat of the Senior Executive Service, assumed her post as US Ambassador to Kuwait on February 11, 2020.
