LONDON: Golden Horde, owned by Muhammadiya Racing Stables, won the Commonwealth Cup on the fourth day of the prestigious Royal Ascot Festival yesterday.
The victory heralded a successful debut for Muhammadiya Racing Stables, led by Shaikh Sultan Al Deen bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, on the British and European racecourse.
Trained by Clive Cox, jockey Adam Kirby rode Golden Horde to victory, outclassing other rivals in the 600m-long race.
The King’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs, National Security Adviser and Supreme Council of Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa hailed Golden Horde’s success.
The equestrian sport in Bahrain has become an example to follow in overseas participation after accomplishing many major honours recently which confirms the extraordinary position the kingdom is occupying in the sport, he said. Such achievements are the fruit of the support the sport is enjoying from His Majesty King Hamad, he added.
Shaikh Nasser also congratulated Shaikh Sultan on this achievement, expressing his keenness to provide full support to Muhammadiya Racing Stables.
“This victory embodies the extraordinary position the equestrian sport is occupying at the international level. This is another source of motivation for us,” Shaikh Nasser said.
Horse Care Affairs Authority chairman Shaikh Daij bin Salman Al Khalifa congratulated Shaikh Sultan on the victory. He paid tribute to Shaikh Nasser for his support.
