DUBAI: Qatar’s subversive policies in the Arab region have once again come under fire.
“Doha regime’s policy has remained unchanged almost three years after the Arab Quartet started boycotting Qatar,” said a former diplomat.
In statements to the UAE’s Al Ain news website, former diplomats and foreign policy analysts accused Doha’s regime of persisting in sponsoring terrorism and playing a destructive role in the region.
They rapped Doha’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood and armed militias in Syria and Libya, and its alignment with Turkey and Iran, to the detriment of the Arab countries’ vital interests.
On June 5, 2017, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain announced their decision to boycott Qatar for harbouring terrorist groups and endangering Arab security.
Al Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies expert Ahmed Qandil said the Doha regime, which has close links to the Muslim Brotherhood, serves the designs of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his illusions of reviving the Ottoman Caliphate.
Former Egyptian assistant foreign minister for Arab affairs Nabil Badr said the boycott should be maintained unless the Doha regime stopped sponsoring terrorism, calling on the GCC to freeze its membership.
Former Egyptian assistant foreign minister Mohammed Badreddine Zayed rapped the flagrant aggression led by the Qatari and Turkish regimes on Libyan people.
They agreed that the causes which led the Arab Quartet to boycott Qatar remain unchanged.
