His Majesty the King’s representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has said that sports could play a major role in achieving development and peace.
This, he said, has been proved by the kingdom on many occasions through a number of initiatives it has launched, in accordance with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad to strengthen the country’s global standing.
In a statement marking the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, observed worldwide yesterday under the theme ‘Sport and Physical Activity During Covid-19’, Shaikh Nasser said that sports has always played a major role in making societies more cohesive and strong, through the unique values it promotes. He said sports is capable of serving sustainable development, strengthening global peace and reinforcing tolerance and peaceful co-existence among all.
Shaikh Nasser asserted that over the past years, Bahrain has witnessed an unprecedented sports movement at all levels, through hosting many sports and youth gatherings, thus promoting development and peace.
He said that sports has served as Bahrain’s ambassador at various gatherings, through its athletes, noting that the kingdom participates in all UN initiatives that contribute to linking sports to development and peace.
He added that Bahrain has joined the international community’s efforts to combat Covid-19, stressing the need to practise sports in effective and secure ways.
